One of the major priorities for FC Barcelona this summer was to finally return to the 1:1 rule, a goal that has been on the club’s agenda for quite some time. Despite their efforts, the Catalan giants are still struggling to meet that target.
There had been optimism in recent weeks that Barça could achieve this objective, especially with several financial operations lined up, including the much-discussed sale of VIP seats. The belief was that the right accounting treatment could persuade La Liga to reinstate them under 1:1 regulations.

Unfortunately, according to SPORT, that optimism is quickly fading. The stumbling block lies in the interpretation of revenue from the VIP seats operation. While Barcelona argued that the income should be recognized all at once, La Liga insists it must be spread across the years for which the seats are sold.
The matter was referred to auditors Crowe for validation, but with no green light forthcoming, La Liga remains firm in rejecting the club’s proposal. Without Crowe’s approval, the Blaugrana cannot register those revenues as planned, leaving them short of the conditions needed to return to the 1:1 rule.
This setback has direct consequences for pending registrations. Players such as Wojciech Szczesny, Gerard Martin, and Roony Bardghji, along with Marc Bernal’s new contract, remain in limbo, unable to be registered under the current financial framework.

With the VIP seats operation hanging in the balance, Barcelona may be forced to explore drastic solutions. One such option under discussion is the sale of a youth player, as such a move generates pure profit in accounting terms.
Marc Casado has been highlighted as a potential candidate. Despite being highly valued within the club, competition in midfield is fierce, with Frenkie de Jong untouchable, Gavi returning to full fitness, and Marc Bernal back in contention. Casado’s minutes could be limited, and the club might entertain offers in the region of €30 million.
In fact, the decision-makers at the club are already prepared to sit down with Casado to gauge his intentions. The sporting management remains pleased with his performances, and the player himself is reportedly reluctant to leave, yet there is also an awareness that the current market presents a rare and valuable opportunity.
Selling him could unlock the financial margin needed to meet La Liga’s requirements. Should Casado decide to stay, however, the matter will almost certainly be revisited when the window opens again in January.
