FC Barcelona are facing a significant off-field issue during this January transfer window, and no, it is not the much-discussed registration saga involving Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor. Instead, the Catalan giants find themselves grappling with a potential transfer saga.
In recent days, speculation around the possible departure of defensive star Ronald Araújo to Juventus has been gathering pace. As things stand, it appears increasingly likely that the Barcelona captain’s future at the club could be in jeopardy.
. However, something seems to have changed over the last 12 months, and with his contract expiring in 2026, the club will be forced to sell him f he does not agree to a new deal.
Now, as per Fichajes, Barcelona have set an asking price of around €70m to sell Ronald Araújo amid Juventus’ interest. Considering his current status and his contractual situation, one would assume that it is the bare minimum fee that the Catalan club should agree for the Uruguayan.
Interestingly, it is not just Juventus who are interested in securing the services of the 25-year-old with Arsenal also linked with the player. Araújo is versatile and although predominantly a center-back, he can also play as a right-back.
One good thing for Barcelona, even if they were to lose Araújo now, is that for the past six months, the team has now become used to playing without the Uruguayan, and Pau Cubarsí and Iñigo Martínez have ensured that no one misses him.
The Spanish duo have been excellent so far this season. Iñigo Martínez has been a leader at the back and marshalled the backline expertly whereas Pau Cubarsí has taken his stocks from step to step and impressed with his aptitude.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Ronald Araújo. Although fans would like him to stay, it does not seem to be the case at the moment, and let’s wait and see how it plays out.
