FC Barcelona put an end to a very successful 2024-25 season last night with their 0-3 win over Athletic Club in their last La Liga match.
After having won the Spanish Super Cup back in January, Hansi Flick’s team went on to win the Copa del Rey and the La Liga titles in the last few weeks, thus showcasing their superiority over their fiercest domestic rivals, Real Madrid, a team that was considered to be the favorite to win all the big titles at the start of the season.
This Copa del Rey and La Liga win this season was the ninth time that the Blaugrana side won a domestic double in their history, and as Mundo Deportivo has noted, this achievement goes on to further their position as one of the most successful clubs in the top five European leagues.
With these 9 domestic doubles to their name, the Catalans stand second in the ranking of clubs in the top five European leagues in this regard. Only Bayern Munich have won a domestic double more times (13) than Barcelona.
However, the Blaugranes deserve much more credit for their wins, as unlike Bayern Munich, they have had to compete with two other big clubs, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, to win domestic cup and league titles.

Among Spanish sides, Barcelona’s 9 doubles are almost twice the number of Athletic Club’s count, who have 5 domestic doubles to their name, and more than twice the number of Real Madrid, who have won 4 doubles in their history. Atletico Madrid is the only other Spanish side to have won a double, which they did back in 1996.
Returning to European rankings, following Bayern and Barcelona in this regard is the Italian side Juventus and the French side Paris Saint-Germain, who both have 6 domestic doubles to their name.
The Blaugranes’ 9 domestic doubles have come under managers like Fernando Daucik, Helenio Herrera, Louis van Gaal, Pep Guardiola, Luis Enrique, and Ernesto Valverde. Now Hansi Flick joins this illustrious company in the Catalan side’s history, after already having won a double with Bayern Munich in 2020.
