Barcelona star Robert Lewandowski has this week seen the motives behind his decision to pull out of the latest Poland national team squad called into question.

This comes amid concerns over the frontman’s relationship with manager Michał Probierz.

Lewandowski for his part announced his decision not to link up with his fellow countrymen for an upcoming pair of fixtures against Moldova and Finland earlier this week.

Citing ongoing fitness problems after a spell of several weeks on the sidelines late in the season, the 36-year-old (as cited by Diario Sport) took to Instagram to write:

‘Dear fans! Taking into account the circumstances and the intensity of the season at club level, together with the coach we have decided that this time I will not participate in the June training camp with the Polish national team. Playing in the red and white jersey has always been a dream come true, but sometimes the body sends signals that it needs a break.’

As alluded to above, though, not all in Lewandowski’s home country are entirely convinced by his reasoning.

Former Polish international Radosław Murawski, for one, on Wednesday questioned the Barcelona star’s relationship with national team headmaster Michał Probierz.

Speaking to newspaper Fakt, as per Sport, Murawski explained:

“I don’t know if this isn’t also a situation where you can feel like the chemistry between Coach Probierz and Robert isn’t the best. If the national coach was Hansi Flick, with whom Robert has a great relationship, I think he would have come to this training camp despite this difficult season.

“Probierz has never gotten along with expressive players, and Robert is definitely not just any player. He has his own opinion and that, perhaps, is also a problem for the coach.

“If the relationship was really good, Robert would have been around if only to accompany the group. Luka Modrić, older than him, goes to every game with Croatia despite his busy schedule.”
