After months of financial uncertainty and delays, a ray of hope has finally emerged for Barcelona.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the long-standing issue involving Libero Football Finance AG and their unpaid €40 million now appears to be heading toward resolution, and just in time for the club to regain its freedom in the transfer market.

Initially, Libero had agreed to pay €60 million to acquire a 10% stake in Barça Vision, of which only €20 million had been paid.

The remaining €40 million has been the subject of much frustration for the club, restricting Barcelona’s ability to operate freely under La Liga’s financial fair play rules. However, that seems to be changing rapidly.

Libero reverses course

Miguel Galan, president of CENAFE, revealed on social media that Barcelona were on the verge of resolving the situation.

According to Galan, a deal was nearly closed with a new European investor who would step in and pay the €40 million Libero failed to deliver. This external interest appears to have pushed Libero into action.

By Friday, Galan confirmed that Libero themselves had decided to make the full payment, likely spurred by the threat of losing the stake to another party.

This turnaround ensures that Barcelona receive the funds directly and can include the full €40 million in their 2025/26 financial budget.

This is no small victory. The arrival of the remaining funds would restore Barça’s ability to work under La Liga’s 1:1 financial rule, allowing them to spend what they earn, a crucial mechanism for registering new players and closing pending deals.

Timing couldn’t have been any better

The timing could not be better. With several operations underway, including the highly anticipated signing of Nico Williams, this €40 million injection provides a much-needed boost.

Not only does it relieve short-term financial pressure, but it also allows the club to enter the market more confidently and register new signings without further complications.

The matter with Aramark Group, which dates back to last summer, temporarily stepped in to absorb Libero’s €40 million commitment for a 10% share in Barça Vision.

But now, with Libero back at the table and finally honouring their obligation, the financial saga appears to be reaching its end.
