The board at Barcelona look set to be dealt an imminent blow by their counterparts at La Liga rivals Celta Vigo.

This comes amid confirmation that the Celestes are close to tying Óscar Mingueza down to a new contract.

Just weeks ago, defender Mingueza’s departure from Vigo this summer was considered a given.

Fresh off a starring campaign in 2024/25, the Spaniard was widely reported to have been on the verge of a move to England, with Aston Villa.

Such news came as music to the ears of the aforementioned Barcelona, who maintain a 50% sell-on clause as part of the deal which sent Mingueza to Balaídos back in 2022.

Safe to say, then, that the latest word doing the rounds in the Spanish media will likely mark a source of concern for the Camp Nou hierarchy.

As per a report from Diario Sport:

‘The player’s situation has taken an unexpected turn and everything indicates that he could renew for three more seasons with Celta over the next few days.’
