Barcelona have confirmed their partial return to the renovated Spotify Camp Nou on 14 September, when they host Valencia, followed by Getafe on 21 September, each with an initial capacity of 27,000 spectators.
Simultaneously, Hansi Flick’s squad for the 2025/26 season has been finalised, with no further transfers expected ahead of the La Liga kick-off.
The iconic stadium of Barcelona, will welcome fans back in Phase 1A, which covers the South Goal stand and the main grandstand, permitting a reduced crowd of 27,000 for the first two home fixtures of the season.
The phased reopening reflects ongoing renovation works under the Espai Barça project, split into three stages: Phase 1B (Lateral stand; 45,000 capacity) and Phase 1C (north goal; 62,000 capacity) are due for completion later this season. Full stadium capacity of nearly 105,000 is expected once all phases and the new roof are finished by 2026.
City Council approvals have been granted for each section individually to expedite partial occupancy, requiring a completion certificate, environmental control clearance, and district permit for Phase 1A. La Liga has adjusted to the schedule of Barcelona, mandating the first three league matches away to allow sufficient time for safety inspections and licensing.
Off the pitch, Barcelona’s squad is now closed for the new campaign. According to AS, the club believe they have adequate depth across all positions, with at least two options per role, and will make no further signings before the transfer window shuts on 31 August.
Incoming reinforcements Joan García, Roony Bardghji and loan signing Marcus Rashford are due to be registered, while fringe players Andreas Christensen and Marc Casadó are available for transfer should compelling offers arise. Casadó’s future remains uncertain due to increased competition from Marc Bernal and Gavi’s resurgence in midfield.
This dual milestone—fans’ return to Camp Nou and a finalised squad—marks a pivotal moment as Barcelona embark on what promises to be another successful season under Hansi Flick.
Barcelona have opened disciplinary proceedings against captain Marc-André ter Stegen after he reportedly refused to sign the medical report outlining his back injury recovery timeline.
Ter Stegen’s camp projects a three-month absence, while the club’s medical team estimates four to five months—long enough to be classified as a long-term injury under La Liga regulations, freeing up to 80% of his salary cap to register new signings.
Without Ter Stegen’s consent to share his medical details with the league’s Medical Commission, Barcelona cannot invoke the long-term injury provision. Consequently, Joan García, Marcus Rashford, and Roony Bardghji remain ineligible for La Liga until Barça creates sufficient wage-bill room to comply with Financial Fair Play rules.
Club insiders indicate that legal and sporting departments are weighing sanctions—potentially including suspending Ter Stegen’s captaincy—if he continues to withhold his signature. The outcome of this dispute will determine Hansi Flick’s ability to field his complete squad when La Liga kicks off on 16 August.
