Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta wants to help build Ethan Nwaneri’s career “brick by brick” after the youngster scored his first Premier League goal.

The 17-year-old came off the bench scored the final goal of the Gunners’ 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday after making a late run into the box to meet substitute Raheem Sterling’s pass in the box.

Bukayo Saka opened the scoring with a terrific solo goal, dribbling the ball across the penalty area before firing it past Mat Selz.

The winger provided the assist for the north London outfit’s second goal as Thomas Partey, who replaced Jorginho at halftime, scored from 25 yards out.

“I think we started really well,” Arteta told BBC Match of the Day. “The sense I was getting in the last 48 hours after the international break, the boys coming together and were all at it.

“It was good to see the impact of the substitutes. Everyone has to feel important. It was a good afternoon.”

The only player younger than Nwaneri to score a goal for Arsenal in the Premier League is Cesc Fabregas, as the teenager continues to impress in his cameos for the club this season.

“He is the second youngest [Premier League goalscorer] in our history,” Arteta said. “That’s a story in itself. He’s brave. You see the reaction of fans and they were singing ‘he’s one of our own’.

“I think we have to put brick by brick and make sure the cement doesn’t get dry. Hopefully we can build a beautiful thing with him.”

Martin Odegaard made his second successive start for Arsenal since returning from injury and the side looked all the better for it.

“It’s not a coincidence,” Arteta noted. “The team flows in a different way when he is playing.”
