There's a new Andrea Pirlo on the block and he's playing for Liverpool.

Arne Slot is not messing about. In his debut season, he's already delivered the Premier League title but this is just the beginning.

The Dutchman is here to conquer Europe and the rest of the world and aim for utter domination. For that, he's building his own team, and making some very important calls this summer.

Already, we are starting to see what his plans could shape up to be. Liverpool have pursued a move for Florian Wirtz, and Anfield Watch understands the club also have targeted the likes of Xavi Simons and Morgan Rogers.

All of that points towards one plan and one plan only.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving, Liverpool plan to fill his void by bringing in a creative no.10. It's an exciting move and it will be even more exciting if that no.10 ends up becoming Wirtz, but only time will tell.

One question that has to be asked though is what will become of Dominik Szoboszlai?

The Hungarian has been playing as a no.10 this season and his performances have been vital to Liverpool securing the Premier League title.

Szoboszlai has contributed with 18 goals and assists in total, which is a pretty great return from the Reds' no.8. However, Slot has admitted, Szoboszlai does not necessarily see his best position in this role.

"He is playing as an eight, with Ryan as a six, with Harvey a bit more forward. I think Dominik sees his best position as an eight,' Slot said as per the Liverpool ECHO ahead of Liverpool's game against Brighton on Monday night.

This might have caught people off guard considering Szoboszlai has been playing as a no.10 all season but it was evident in his performance against the Seagulls that a deeper role suits him a lot more.

Szoboszlai controlled the midfield and played a key role in both of Liverpool's goals. He started the Reds' opener with a brilliant looping long-pass finding Mohamed Salah.

Then he scored himself with a powerful cross that ended up in the back of the Brighton net.

Overall, Szoboszlai completed four out of five long-passes and his ability to switch the play was something we haven't quite seen him do in a Liverpool shirt.

It's something that he is absolutely capable of. But obviously playing higher up the pitch, it's not an area of his game Szoboszlai has been able to show.

Nonetheless, the people who know him best have always maintained that he would thrive deeper. When I interviewed Hungary's national team manager for Liverpool.com, Marco Rossi likened Szoboszlai to Andrea Pirlo

"I know he said that he doesn't like too much to play in this position," Rossi said.

"But I really think that in the future, he could be a fantastic number six. He has all the skills to be in this position, like [Andrea] Pirlo was, just to give an example. I think Pirlo was the best in this position in the last 15 years, and Dominik has really good skills to play in this position."

It's that position which Szoboszlai could now occupy full time. Without Alexander-Arnold, Szoboszlai could become the man to dictate the ball from deep and making those long switches in order to catch the opposition off guard.

With the long hair and the beard as well as his ability to make long diagonal passes, Rossi's comparisons to Pirlo now do not seem as far-fetched.
