According to renowned sports journalist Nicolo Schira, Liverpool are in advanced talks with Milos Kerkez’s entourage before a potential summer swoop. The Bournemouth left fullback is keen on the move, and the Reds are now negotiating over a reported £45m transfer fee with his current employers.

The controversial exit of Trent Alexander-Arnold is a blow for the Merseysiders, considering their homegrown superstar’s decision to join European rivals Real Madrid on a Bosman. But the club reacted sharply by securing Conor Bradley’s long-term future and roping in Jeremie Frimpong, with a medical scheduled for the Bayer Leverkusen right wingback on Monday.

Meanwhile, the champions of England are not slowing down en route to scripting a summer rebuild. They have been criticised for a lack of transfer activities over the past couple of windows, particularly since appointing Arne Slot as Jurgen Klopp’s successor. However, they are now addressing the limitations, including the left-back spot.

Why Liverpool Need A New Left-back

Andrew Robertson has served the club for eight years with esteem and repute. But the veteran Scotsman is past his prime, as he does not have the same level of speed, agility, and strength as before. And Tsimikas, despite his opportunities, has not done enough to cement a starting status over the years. The Greek left fullback could be offloaded if an offer arrives, and Robertson could slowly be moved as a sporadic option if Kerkez plies his trade to Merseyside from the south coast.

The 21-year-old Hungary international spent his youth years with OFK Vrbas, Rapid Wien, Hódmezővásárhely and Győr before breaking into the latter’s first-team squad in the second tier of Hungarian football. Although he was snapped up by AC Milan in February 2021, the lack of opportunities saw him part ways with the Rossoneri for AZ a year later. After an impressive 2022-23 season in the Eredivisie, Richard Hughes, the then Bournemouth sporting director, secured his services for €17m in the summer of 2023.

Why Liverpool Must Snap Up Kerkez

Kerkez proved to be an instant success for the Cherries with his aggression and attacking traits down the left-hand flank. He has not missed a single Premier League game this season; moreover, his numbers (2 goals and 6 assists, stats via Transfermarket) depict why Hughes, now in charge of the Reds’ transfer business, is keen on a reunion with the prized Bournemouth asset.

Slot has not changed much in terms of Klopp’s playing style, which suits the current crop of Liverpool players. Their fullbacks have to be creative and attacking-minded in this system, and the Frimpong-Kerkez pair could embark on a new dawn in the red half of Merseyside if the transfers take place in due time.
