Anderlecht sack Brian Riemer over ‘insufficient’ performances

Anderlecht have announced that they have parted ways with head coach Brian Riemer. The former Brentford man has been under pressure to start the season, despite one defeat in his opening seven games, over poor performances. The side have laboured to victories and been unconvincing too often. After the 2-0 home defeat to Genk, the clubs hierarchy have decided to part ways with Riemer over what they cite as the teams ‘insufficient’ performances.

Riemer joined midway through the 2022/2023 season and last season mounted a title challenge with the side. They ultimately fell short in the play offs and finished third behind city rivals Union St Gilloise and eventual winners Club Brugge. Riemer may well feel that he has been the fall guy for a summer transfer window that was incredibly slow. The side started the season with just one recognised central defender in Jan Vertonghen, who was injured. They have since made a number of signings, but this has come too late to help Riemer.

David Hubert will be in charge on an interim basis while the side look for a new head coach. The former midfielder was head coach of the sides U18 team.
