Three players who should be on the Terriers' transfer radar this summer

There has already been some significant business done by Huddersfield Town in the summer transfer window.

Following their relegation from the Championship to League One at the end of last season, Andre Breitenreiter left his role as manager, and was swiftly replaced in the role by Michael Duff.

Meanwhile, there have also been changes within the first-team squad, where so far it is a case of one in and out.

Wing-back Lasse Sorensen has joined the club from Lincoln City, while Jack Rudoni has departed the John Smith's Stadium in order to complete a move to Coventry City.

Even so, there will still be plenty more business that the club need to do before the window closes on the 30th August, with other issues in their squad still to be addressed.

So with that in mind, we've taken a look at three potential signings Huddersfield Town should consider making in the next few weeks, right here.

Marvin Ekpiteta

If Duff is to continue with the 3-5-2 system that he has often used throughout his managerial career, the Terriers may need to add to their depth at centre back.

That is particularly the case given it would be no surprise to see interest in Michal Helik, and one option they could potentially consider to boost their options here, is Marvin Ekpiteta.

The 28-year-old has just left Blackpool after four years with the club, during which time he gained plenty of experience of both the Championship and League One.

As a result, his know-how of those levels could be helpful for Huddersfield as they push for a return to the second-tier. His availability on a free transfer is also useful from a financial perspective, and having also worn the captain's armband in the past, his leadership abilities may very much come in handy too.

Having spent the 2022/23 season on loan at QPR from Brighton, Taylor Richards then made his move to Loftus Road permanent last summer.

So far, however, the midfielder has badly struggled with injuries, making just 21 appearances in all competitions across his two seasons with the R's.

It could therefore be argued that the 23-year-old would benefit from a loan move to kickstart his career with more regular football in the 2024/25 campaign, and a Huddersfield side pushing for promotion from League One could be a good destination for him to do that.

For the Terriers too, this could be a smart move, adding the depth they need to the centre of their midfield to cope with the demands of a 3-5-2 formation, while bringing in a player who may have the spark and potential to make an impact, looking at the level of clubs he has played for previously.

Alfie May

One player who Huddersfield have already seen a bid rejected for this summer, is Charlton Athletic striker Alfie May, and that is a deal they must surely still look to get done having had revised terms accepted.

While the Terriers are not short on attacking options, they badly struggled for goals last season, so someone who can get them at this level at the rate that a 30-year-old can, would be a major boost for them.

Indeed, it was while playing under Duff at Cheltenham Town that May really began to find his scoring touch, so reuniting with him now at The John Smith's Stadium could again bring the best out of him.

Given Charlton will also be aiming for promotion from League One this season, not only would Huddersfield be strengthening their own side with this signing, but they could be weakening a direct rival in the process as well, making it an even smarter deal for them to pursue.
