Yoane Wissa returned to training this past week with Brentford, as Newcastle United continued their efforts to sign him.

The striker doing so after previously having refused to join group training and also deleting all references to Brentford on his social media.

Newcastle United made a new second offer to Brentford in midweek, upping their bid from £25m originally to £40m.

That improved offer consisting of £35m guaranteed for the striker who turns 29 in 11 days time, plus another £5m in future add-ons.

To the frustration of Yoane Wissa, that offer was also turned down (see below) by Brentford.

The striker has resisted offers from Saudi Arabia this summer as his only goal is to join Newcastle United.

After the poor defeat to Forest last weekend, Brentford made four changes on Saturday for the home game against Aston Villa. Record signing and new striker Dango Ouattara making his first start, Jordan Henderson the same.

However, Yoane Wissa once again totally absent from the Brentford squad this afternoon, despite having trained this week.

Having already seen one effort saved by Aston Villa keeper Martinez, it only took until the 12th minute for new Brentford striker Dango Ouattara to score the opening goal. Brentford leading 1-0 at half-time in this 3pm kick-off.

(***That Ouattara goal proving to be the only one of the game, final score Brentford 1 Aston Villa 0)

A third offer from Newcastle United is widely expected in the coming days and with Yoane Wissa still not featuring in matchday squads for Brentford, just maybe a deal will finally be done. Eddie Howe finally getting his replacement for Callum Wilson who departed NUFC this summer.

Sky Sports report – 21 August 2025:

The Magpies made the bid earlier on Wednesday, but it has now been turned down by their Premier League rivals.
