Newcastle United forward William Osula could still leave the Tyneside outfit this summer despite the club looking to bring in a striker, according to Florian Plettenberg.

The Magpies may be scouring the market for potential centre-forward additions, but are willing to let the Danish forward go.

Osula has not particularly lit up St. James’ Park after managing only two goals and two assists in 20 appearances.

However, with Newcastle struggling to sign Yoane Wissa, Callum Wilson leaving, and Alexander Isak adamant that he wants an exit, it is surprising that the Toons could let Osula go.

That being said, Osula is attracting interest from Bayer Leverkusen based on the report.

There is nothing concrete yet, but Leverkusen could propose a deal to Newcastle before the transfer window closes.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is clearly not his biggest fan, even though he lauded him as ‘a massive player’ for the club earlier this year.

The English tactician has barely given the Denmark Under-21 international enough minutes.

Howe brought him on for one minute in the Premier League opener versus Aston Villa in a game that was crying out for cutting-edge up top.

Osula may not have seized his opportunity to impress in pre-season, but he will not improve his game by not getting any minutes from the bench.

A departure might suit all parties.

Who should Newcastle sign to replace Osula?

If Osula, who earns £20,000 per week, leaves Tyneside this summer, the Magpies should consider a move for Atletico Madrid striker Alexander Sorloth.

The 29-year-old Norwegian is struggling for minutes in Spain but would be a terrific addition to the Newcastle ranks.

Sorloth bagged 24 goals and two assists in 53 appearances for Atletico last season. His being on the market is an exciting opportunity Newcastle must pounce on.

He also has Premier League experience, having spent time with Crystal Palace, giving him a level of familiarity that could ease his transition.
