Chelsea have made a lot of signings and won the Club World Cup. Now we’re onto the third stage of the summer – the squad clearout.
We looked at a list of 7 players the Blues are prioritising as potential sales this summer earlier this morning, and now we can drill down a little more into one of them.

Axel Disasi has been out of the first team picture for a while, and went on loan to Aston Villa in January. The plan has clearly been to sell him for a while, and according to Matt Law, speaking on the London is Blue podcast, that shouldn’t be too much of an issue.
“Disasi has a fair bit of interest, I think, both overseas and at home,” Law said.
“I’m told he’s a very good character in dressing rooms, and I’m also told that as an actual centre back, his data and everything is pretty good. People like him as a centre back, it’s obvious if you get hooked into him as hybrid and potentially playing at right back [that he struggles]. So I think there are a lot of teams who would look at him as a centre back and still be interested. So I’m pretty confident that Disasi will get a club and that they will sell him [permanently].”
Disasi looked solid, if not exceptional, at Chelsea and Villa. He’s still relatively young, and we should get decent money for him, as Law says.
The problem is that the initial fee we paid was so high (somewhere in the region of £39m) that we’re likely to lose money on the deal. That’s not a disaster – you can’t win them all – but it’s another reminder that the key to profit is buying low as well as selling high.
