In a recent report, Tuttomercatoweb revealed that Chelsea are keeping a keen eye on Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae. It has been stated that the Blues are eager to get a deal done for the South Korean talent in this transfer window.

Kim’s Impressive Run Of Form In German Football

Kim was a solid presence at the heart of Bayern’s backline in the previous campaign after he put in a series of impressive displays for them in the Bundesliga. The South Korean talent was involved in 43 matches for the Bavarian giants last season, netting three goals in multiple competitions.

The 28-year-old was a rock at the back for the German outfit as he made 35 tackles, 23 blocks and 37 interceptions in the Bundesliga. He was even accurate when distributing possession from the back based on his pass completion rate of 92.5% in the German top tier (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at the Allianz Arena will run out in the summer of 2028 which could make it difficult for Chelsea to sign him on a cut-price deal this off-season.

What Will Kim Bring To Chelsea?

Kim is a good tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to secure the ball back for his team on the defensive third of the field. He usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the offensive and can even play his way out from inside his half.

Standing at 1.90m, the South Korea international is a strong presence in the air as well. However, he might need some time to settle into the high intensity of the Premier League if the Blues manage to get him on board this off-season.

We can expect Kim to bring more bite and steel to Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca’s defence. He has what it takes to compete for regular first-team football at Stamford Bridge next season.

At 28, Kim is still playing in his prime which makes him a worthy target for the Blues to consider in this transfer period. He will also help the West London outfit challenge across all fronts in the coming years. Therefore, Maresca would be wise to step up his efforts to acquire the services of the South Korean centre-back soon.
