1.FC Köln see Lukas Kwasniok as their preferred candidate for their vacant head coach role | OneFootball

Sky Germany reports that 1.FC Köln see Paderborn head coach Lukas Kwasniok as their preferred candidate to become their new head coach.

Kwasniok announced earlier in the season that he would leave Paderborn at the end of the season, regardless of if they gained promotion or not.

On Sunday, it was decided by the Köln joint committee that Kwasniok will be their number one candidate to replace Friedheim Funkel as their permanent head coach.

Effzeh are now working on reaching a verbal agreement with the coach. Once that is done, Köln then need to reach an agreement with Paderborn to release Kwasniok from his contract. Paderborn are demanding a transfer fee of €1.5m.

This will not be the first time that a coach has followed the Paderborn to Köln path. Steffen Baumgart previously swapped Paderborn for the Domstadt and was rather successful, taking the team into the Conference League.

Köln have been busy this summer and have already agreed deals for Ragnar Ache from Kaiserslautern and Ísak Bergmann Jóhannesson from Rhein rivals Fortuna Düsseldorf.
