Blackburn Rovers' season has come to an extremely disappointing end, and after the promise that was seen on the pitch earlier in the year, fury has taken over in the stands.

The Venky's have been the owners of the Lancashire outfit for the last 15 years, and in that time they have overseen the demise of a club fighting in mid-table in the Premier League, to one that is struggling to entertain supporters in the Championship.

A visit to League One in the 2017/18 campaign was perhaps the lowest point for many at Ewood Park, and while they are set to finish in the middle of the pack in the second tier this season, there will be a huge amount of worry about next year.

Blackburn are a club that have stagnated, and there is a severe lack of ambition being shown by those high up in BB9, and fans will be questioning what happens next.

Verdict made on The Venky's ownership of Blackburn

John Eustace's departure while Rovers were in the top six back in February to a Derby County side in a relegation scrap was perhaps proof that those involved on the footballing side of things do not trust the direction that the club are going in.

The appointment of Valerien Ismael was an unpopular one, and has so far proven to be unsuccessful, and ultimately another manager should have been chosen.

Football League World has asked their Blackburn Fan Pundit, Simon Middlehurst, if he believes the owners have the club's best interests at heart.

He told FLW: "Absolutely not. The media coverage around The Venky’s is growing more and more.

"It's been 15 years of absolute torment and hell with Blackburn going from being an average Premier League side to the lowest point of being relegated to League One.

"There are rumours of assets being stripped, they say that they've got the best interests of the club at heart, but they haven't been seen for nearly six/seven years now, possibly even longer."

Simon continued: "Obviously, what's happened this season with John Eustace going and Valerien Ismael coming in, which many fans have probably seen as a cheaper option. A lot of fans now are also staying away.

"If you look at the recent game against Sheffield Wednesday, the crowd just wasn't there. There's just no buzz around the club anymore. Fans just didn't even want to protest, they just want to stay away and not spend any money."

Next season could be tough for Blackburn

Conversations surrounding the future of Ismael have already started, with TalkSport reporting that Wayne Rooney could potentially replace the Frenchman if he is sacked by Blackburn.

Rovers fans must certainly be worried about the possibility of the former Derby boss coming in at Ewood Park following his disastrous spells with Birmingham City and Plymouth Argyle.

His short stay with Blues led to relegation to League One, while the Pilgrims are in huge danger in the Championship currently after the 39-year-old was sacked at the end of December.

The Venky's have to show more ambition if they are to keep supporters coming through the gates, but at the moment in time, it is hard to see where any positivity is going to come for Blackburn.
