€100m price tag won’t be main factor which prevents Chelsea signing Jamie Gittens

Chelsea have today been linked with an £80m bid for Kaoru Mitoma, something which sounds very unlikely to us.
We know the Blues want to sign a left winger, but the Brighton man’s age, combined with his price tag, make him seem like a total no-go for us. Signing him would mean ripping up the whole transfer strategy which we’re now a few years into.
One player who feels a lot more likely to us to join- despite being far more expensive – is Jamie Gittens. The Blues, along with Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs, have been linked with a summer offensive to bring the English winger back to the Premier League.
German paper Bild report an eye popping €102m fee being demanded by Borussia Dortmund. However we’ve seen this current model sign two players for above €100m already. If they good enough and young enough, they’re worth the money, the logic goes.

With Gittens, the issue won’t be the price, it will be the competition. We’ve got to offer him a better pathway to trophies and individual success than the other teams out there, and right now that looks unlikely.
Our “bad season” has turned into three “bad seasons” on the spin. We’re fast fading from being considered a serious contender to win the Premier League, and it’s been a long time since the Champions League anthem was heard at Stamford Bridge. As it stands, why would Gittens choose us over Arsenal or Liverpool?
We’ve got to finish this season strong and get this project back on track, otherwise Gittens and many other top talents like him are going to stop considering us as a serious option in the future.
