FC Barcelona manager Hansi Flick answered questions from the media following his team's 5-0 win over Daegu FC on Monday. Here are his quotes related to Korea and K League opposition. For the full version of Flick's press conference, please head over to our Patreon page.
Barcelona defeated FC Seoul 7-3 and Daegu 5-0 during their short tour of Korea this summer. Almost immediately following victory at Blue Arc, the La Liga champions boarded a flight from Daegu to Incheon, before meeting their 3:30 am departure for Barcelona. As a result, the post-match press conference was rushed and no visiting players were available for interview in the mixed zone.
As is tradition at these summer friendlies, Flick was unwilling to discuss the qualities of the K League teams his side faced, nor was he going to single out any players who impressed him. He remarked at one point; "I'm only focused about my team." Any conversation about K League was short. The manager was more content answering questions from the large number of assembled Catalan media.
Finally, due to translation confusion at the start of the press conference, neither Hansi Flick nor Uruguayan defender Ronald Araújo, sitting next to the German manager, offered a post-match statement. The presser opened with questions from the media before the two Barcelona representatives could speak.
Question: Going into this Asian Tour, you said you'd test some younger players. How did it go?
Hansi Flick: For us, in these three matches (one in Japan, and two in Korea), it was very important that we could change the players every 45 minutes. Because the conditions were very hard, the parts for the players were not easy. They did a fantastic job here. I am really happy.
Question: Against FC Seoul and Daegu, you got to see many Korean players. Did you see much potential in the players and what areas do you think Korean players need to improve on?
HF: I am only focused on my team. I am not focused on the opponents. This is maybe a question for the other coaches, but not for me. I am happy with my team for how they played on this Asian Tour in the three matches.
Question: From the training facilities to the pitches to the opposition, were you pleased with what Korea offered your club on this tour?
HF: Of course. For us it was important to train well and we saw some good facilities in Seoul. I was happy with that. And, of course, the opponents for us were very important because we saw what we wanted to see. It was a good test for us in all three matches, and I appreciate that.
Question: What was the biggest achievement from this Korea Tour?
HF: For us it was the training but also the matches. I think every one from our club is surprised about the fans and the support for us from the Korean fans. So many fans really support us and that is fantastic to see. I think we gave them two good matches here in South Korea and hopefully they enjoyed it. This has been a really good thing. Thanks for that. Thanks for supporting our team.
