Charlie Kelman has sent a message to Charlton Athletic fans after signing for the club from QPR.
As expected after Saturday's reports, Charlton Athletic have completed the signing of prolific Queens Park Rangers forward Charlie Kelman, in a deal that could reach the £5m mark in the future.
Nathan Jones has pulled off a remarkable coup in the transfer window by bringing the 27-goal striker to The Valley, after a hugely successful loan spell with Leyton Orient last season, which saw the O's narrowly miss out on promotion via the play-offs.
After weeks of speculation regarding his future, Kelman has now swapped west London for the southeast of the capital by linking up with the Championship newcomers, in a deal that could reportedly be worth up to £5m.
The signing represents a real statement of intent from Charlton, as they look to steer well clear of a relegation scrap in the first season back in the second tier, whilst QPR have pocketed a tidy fee for a player who never really hit form in the blue and white hoops.
After the signing was announced, Kelman sent a message to his new supporters via the club's website which will have Addicks fans hugely excited over the addition of the 23-year-old.
Many questions have been raised about whether Kelman can replicate his goalscoring form from League One last season into the Championship, having previously struggled in the second tier with QPR.
But the former United States youth international seems confident in his abilities to prove the doubters wrong, as he sent a message to Charlton supporters after putting pen to paper on a deal to bring him to the newly-promoted club.
Speaking to Charlton's official website, Kelman said: “I'm excited to be here. It’s a good squad, defensively solid and going forward very good as well.
"I feel like I’m ready for the Championship. I’m going to give it my best shot. I want to get my head down, score some goals and enjoy it."
Many were left wondering about what sort of stance QPR held on Kelman's future at Loftus Road, as they found themselves in a rather unprecedented position with a player attracting huge interest who'd never hit form in an R's shirt.
However, it's now been revealed from the Superhoops' statement confirming the 23-year-old's departure that he expressed his desire to move on, and the club granted this request, allowing for a seemingly amicable ending to his stint in W12.
A statement on behalf of QPR from CEO Christian Nourry was released on the club's official website, which read: “Charlie moves on with our very best wishes.
“Following an excellent season in League One with Leyton Orient, Charlie expressed a desire to move on.
“When it became clear Charlie did not want to extend his time with us, we have worked with him to achieve this transfer while also acting in the best interests of the football club.”
It seems the switch is a move that works well for all parties involved. Charlton get a quality, hungry striker, QPR receive a tidy fee for a player who didn't want to be at the club, and Kelman gets the fresh start he was looking for.
