Don Goodman has told FLW that Wycombe's Richard Kone would be a good signing for Celtic as they are linked with the striker.

Don Goodman has backed Wycombe striker Richard Kone to flourish at Celtic if the Scottish champions make a move for the striker.

The 22-year-old, who joined the Chairboys from non-league Athletic Newham, has established himself as one of the brightest prospects in the EFL with his form in League One.

He found the net 18 times last season and impressed with his physicality and all-round game, which attracted plenty of admirers, even though Wycombe missed out on promotion after a play-off loss to Charlton over two legs.

Richard Kone transfer latest as Celtic monitor £7m-rated striker

After blossoming under Matt Bloomfield at Wycombe, it’s no surprise the manager tried to sign the player in the January window after his move to Luton.

However, Kone stuck around at Adams Park, although a summer move could now be on the cards, particularly as Wycombe failed to reach the second tier.

It has been claimed that Celtic are the latest club to show an interest in Kone, with Brendan Rodgers looking to sign a number nine this summer to add to his squad.

Don Goodman backs Richard Kone to succeed at Celtic if transfer move materialises

Leaving Wycombe for Celtic would be a major change for Kone, with the Scottish champions likely to be able to offer Champions League football as well.

It would also come with huge pressure, but, speaking exclusively to Football League World, Sky Sports pundit Goodman backed Kone to take it in his stride if he did move north of the border, as he explained why a team like Celtic could be perfect for the man from the Ivory Coast.

What a story this is, from where he came from. He was highly sought-after, particularly from Luton, in January after his manager Matt Bloomfield went to the Hatters.

But, it’s no surprise to see him being linked with a decent opportunity, a move to Scotland. I feel he would thrive massively at that level, with a Celtic team that dominates games and creates chances, and from a personal point of view, I would imagine he would earn way more money than he does at Wycombe.

So, if the opportunity arose, I could see that as a good move for him.”

Richard Kone could take his game to the next level with Celtic

Scottish football often divides opinion, but it’s hard to argue with Goodman that Celtic would be a good move for Kone at this stage of his career.

That would give him a bigger platform to perform, and he would get to show his talent in Europe, and in the biggest club competition on the planet if they get through the Champions League qualifiers next month.

There are still areas of his game that he needs to improve, and a coach like Rodgers could be what he needs to develop, and, as Goodman says, he will get chances every game at a team like Celtic.

It’s a potential move that makes a lot of sense, given Celtic’s need for attacking reinforcements, and it could be the next step in a very successful career for Kone.
