According to a prominent manager in the Netherlands, Celtic target Jakob Breum might well be valued at around £7 million…

A report in The Herald via Stephen McGowan earlier this week suggest Celtic tabled a £1.5 million bid for the Go Ahead Eagles winger as they search for a successor to Nicolas Kuhn, who departed for Serie A side Como in a £16.5 million deal.

However, Go Ahead are holding out for a significantly higher fee than the £1.5 million Celtic bid for the Danish Under 21 international.

Former Twente Enschede and Go Ahead Eagles manager Jan van Staa believes it is only natural that established clubs are keeping tabs on the 21 year old.

Speaking via The Herald, he said: “You know what it is about Breum? Every club is looking for something special… and Breum is certainly special. I am not saying he will have the same career as Dusan Tadic, but he reminds me of him and Twente sold him for £7 million. Breum has already played a lot of games for a young player.”

“It would be a lot of money for him, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all if a big club would pay that. Look at his form last season and his potential. If I really wanted to find a special player in the Netherlands, he’d be on that list.”

Celtic are in desperate need of a right-sided attacker and seem to have cooled their interest in Royal Antwerp winger Michel-Ange Balikwisha.

Balikwisha’s agent Jibril Rekkab publicly stated that the player is open to a move to Celtic, though he noted that talks have not yet begun.

With the competitive league campaign now only nine days away, Brendan Rodgers has admitted that his side have ‘gaps’ in the forward areas. It is important Celtic address these areas as soon as possible.
