Vlahovic and Juventus: time for a divorce?

Dusan Vlahovic’s future at Juventus hangs in the balance, with a series of reports from Bianconera News, Tuttosport, La Stampa, and Il Giornale highlighting the complexities facing both player and club as the summer transfer window heats up.

The Serbian striker’s struggle for consistent development at Juventus has been underlined by sharp criticism from commentators such as Stefano Impallomeni, who told Bianconera News, “Vlahovic needs to rebuild himself. All that remains of the real player is his salary.” Impallomeni suggested that while Max Allegri “tried to get the best out of him at Juve, he’s struggled to improve mentally” and argued that Vlahovic’s “impetuous character” continues to limit his progress. For Impallomeni, the chapter with Juventus appears closed, attributing the stagnation to failings on both sides: “We all thought he was a phenomenon, but he lost his way due to his own responsibility and that of his coaches.”

Contract negotiations are another sticking point, as noted by Tuttosport. The relationship between Vlahovic and Juventus appears increasingly frosty, especially over financial terms. The striker, whose annual salary is reportedly around €12 million, has told the club he is not willing to accept any reduction—insisting on full payment of both his wages and agent commissions whether he stays or leaves. According to La Stampa, upcoming talks with agent Darko Ristic are expected to be tense, with the expectation of a “substantial severance package” if Vlahovic departs before his contract expires in a year. A so-called tactical renewal could surface as a solution, but only under favorable financial terms for the player and his entourage.

Meanwhile, the market for Vlahovic is fluid but challenging. Il Giornale reports strong interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia, but suggests Vlahovic prefers to remain in Europe, showing more inclination toward Milan as a possible destination. There have also been faint links to Inter. However, with no discounts being offered to Juventus and the player’s camp demanding all guarantees before agreeing to a move, negotiations are complicated. The sense is that none of the major parties are eager for a season spent with Vlahovic as a marginal figure, but an immediate resolution remains elusive.

Max Allegri, reflecting on his time coaching the striker, described Vlahovic as “an extraordinary young man” and noted their “good relationship,” though concrete improvement and a successful partnership proved difficult to achieve. Within the club, there’s an understanding that the ‘Vlahovic case’ is the key unresolved issue for this window, and both sides must soon decide whether to part ways or try to find an uneasy compromise.

Whichever direction this saga takes, Vlahovic’s next steps are likely to be shaped not only by his performances but also by his ability to overcome mental barriers and rediscover the level of ambition and focus that once marked him as one of Europe’s most promising strikers.
