Newcastle United are ‘considering’ alternative options after they had a £45 million bid for Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga rejected.

The Magpies submitted the offer for the Sweden international on Tuesday morning, The Athletic reports.

But Forest have rejected the approach “without a counter” as they have “no intention” of selling the 23-year-old ahead of next season when they will be competing in Europe for the first time in 30 years.

The report says Newcastle are “considering” whether they should keep trying to sign Elanga or look elsewhere. The versatile forward, who moved to the City Ground from Manchester United for a £15m transfer fee in 2023, can play across the frontline.

Curiously, Forest are reportedly interested in signing right winger Timothy Weah from Juventus, according to Sky Sports News.

With the Tyneside outfit playing Champions League football in the 2025/26 campaign, there is a desire to add depth to their squad, which includes signing a new right winger.

Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo has “featured heavily” in internal discussions about potential targets, while West Ham United attacker Mohammed Kudus has also been “floated” as an option.

Semenyo, who has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur, would be a far more expensive purchase. Bournemouth reportedly want up to £70m for the 25-year-old following an impressive season in which he scored 11 goals and provided five assists in the Premier League.

Joao Pedro has also been linked with a move to Newcastle, although they face competition from Chelsea. The Brazilian, who can play in a multitude of attacking positions, is reportedly valued at around £60m by Brighton.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are in talks with Burnley to sign goalkeeper James Trafford.
