Ahead of tonight’s clash between AC Milan and Udinese at Stadio Friuli, Fikayo Tomori spoke to the media and shared his thoughts on the Rossoneri’s formation change.m
After not featuring for seven consecutive league games, Tomori is making his second consecutive start this evening as Milan are uip against Udinese. The Englishman will be playing alongside Matteo Gabbia and Strahinja Pavlovic in a three-man backline, which will be interesting to see.
Speaking to DAZN ahead of the game, as transcribed by MilanNews, Tomori shared his thoughts on the formation change and how it suits his abilities. Among other things, he believes he can now be a bit more aggressive as there is more coverage next to him.
Three-man defence today…
“We know very well that in the last matches, we haven’t started well and we have conceded too many goals. Today, we will try to avoid that and also to hurt our opponents. For me, the formation doesn’t count, only the attitude.”
What is the difference between a three-man defence and a four-man defence for you?
“I can be a little more aggressive, because I have two other defenders close by, we can also cover the width of the field better by sliding faster and more aggressively. We can also close down our opponents.”
The draw against Fiorentina last weekend was certainly disappointing, even if perhaps expected, and three points are really needed tonight. It won’t matter much for the league standings, sadly, but Milan need to keep morale up for the Coppa Italia.
