Arsenal have Real Madrid on the ropes heading into the second leg next week with a 3-0 aggregate lead. Nonetheless, one pundit believes the Spanish side luring the former Paris Saint-Germain standout from the French capital disrupted the team dynamics.

When Mbappé decided to leave PSG last summer for Real Madrid, it was a full-circle moment for the club, which had been pursuing the Frenchman since he signed with the capital club in 2017.

Although it was a no-brainer for Los Blancos to sign Mbappé as a free agent following the lopsided loss to the Gunners, one talkSPORT pundit believes the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner’s arrival might have disrupted what Real Madrid had built last season.

Should Real Madrid have buyer’s remorse on Kylian Mbappé?

On Friday, talkSPORT’s Troy Deeney offered his thoughts on whether Kylian Mbappé’s arrival at Real Madrid has negatively impacted the team after failing to make an impact in the loss against the Gunners.

“Listen, you can’t turn down Kylian Mbappé. And his numbers on the surface were really good. I just felt, in that moment, they’ve had to change style. Jude [Bellingham has] played as a left winger in 4-4-2, essentially, without the ball… My point is that—they were moving him into the central area. But now, 4-4-2 defensively.”

“Again, if you looked tactically at the second half, you saw Vinicius Jr. and Mbappé not tracking back, and Arsenal just coming wave after wave after wave. I just think it’s an element of maybe his level of superstar has damaged the team good, as opposed to the individual good.”

Mbappé will need to be stellar in the second leg against Arsenal. Another quiet performance in the UEFA Champions League will attract plenty of criticism, especially if PSG advances past Aston Villa.
