Stefan Ortega Moreno has seemingly issued a dig at the city of Liverpool after he and his teammates were on the receiving end of a 2-0 loss to Arne Slot’s squad.
Manchester City fell to a seventh consecutive game without a win, meaning that their last victory in all competitions was now over a month ago as they find themselves 11 points adrift of the Premier League’s summit.
Pep Guardiola is desperately on the search of solutions to his problems across the squad as the team continues to compete without Rodri, Oscar Bobb, and Mateo Kovacic, and one such change for the trip to Anfield saw rotation in goal.
Following two errors that led directly to goals in Manchester City’s collapse against Feyenoord in the UEFA Champions League last week, Ederson was dropped to the bench with Stefan Ortega Moreno coming in and doing not too much wrong in the defeat to Liverpool.
Speaking after the 2-0 loss on Sunday afternoon, Ortega Moreno shone plenty of positives upon the club’s performance, insisting that there is no disappointment at the way he and his teammates played at Anfield.
“I’m disappointed about the loss, but not in the way we played,” Ortega Moreno admitted. “Everyone is trying to find a solution, especially the mister (Pep Guardiola) up front, and I’m pretty sure he will find a solution, and we as players will follow him.”
Quizzed on whether there is any concern over Manchester City’s hopes over winning a fifth consecutive Premier League crown, the Germany international said, “It’s not the time to speak about any titles.
“But obviously we don’t give up because I think in my first season when we won the league, Arsenal were how many days on top, a bit more than 200? So I think we’re able to win games in a row, but we have to start as quick as possible. But I’m pretty sure we will bounce back.”
“We lost, I think they are 11 points in front, so first of all we have to win a game and start our run. But we are in December, and I learned especially here in England, the season is really long and really tough.”
However, Ortega did follow up with what many are seeing as a dig towards Merseyside, as he responded to questioning over chants towards Pep Guardiola, “Someone told me before this area is probably not the best part in the UK. I think the manager reacted really well.”
It remains to be seen whether Ederson will reclaim his usual starting berth for the Premier League champions on Wednesday night, as Manchester City take on Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium hoping to end their rotten run of form.
