Reports in the Italian press on Tuesday afternoon suggest that Juventus will launch an appeal against the ruling in April that deemed the Bianconeri to be responsible for paying just shy of €9.8m to five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo.

Earlier in April, an arbitration tribunal in Italy ruled that Juventus are responsible for paying Ronaldo a sum of €9.774m, relating to salary manoeuvres during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Juventus had made a private agreement with Ronaldo and some of his teammates at the time, which saw their wages deferred until a later date. Ronaldo then left Turin in 2021 with €19.5m in outstanding salary and wanted the sum to be repaid in full.

The tribunal ruled on April 17 that the club and player were equally responsible, and so, the Old Lady was ordered to pay half of the €19.5m, plus interest, that was owed to Ronaldo.

Juventus to appeal Ronaldo ruling?

Reports from the likes of Tuttomercatoweb on Tuesday afternoon suggest that Juventus are now leaning towards launching an appeal against the ruling earlier in the month.

The club had released their own statement on the matter a few weeks ago, claiming that the ruling ‘lacked any binding effect’.

It has not yet been clarified how long Juve have to make their claim, but it is likely that they are currently well within the appeal period.

That period could be anywhere between 30 days and six months after the original ruling, TMW report.
