Roma have shown interest in West Ham centre-back Konstantinos Mavropanos as part of their ongoing search for defensive reinforcements, as reported by Sky Italy’s Gianluca Di Marzio. The Greek international, who joined the Hammers from Stuttgart in 2023, is one of several options being considered by the Serie A side.

At 27, Mavropanos is entering the prime of his career and remains under contract at West Ham until 2027. His profile fits the mould Roma are targeting, athletic, aggressive and tactically adaptable, particularly as they look to solidify their back line under Gian Piero Gasperini.
West Ham are under no immediate obligation to sell, with Mavropanos tied to a long-term deal and showing steady progression since arriving in East London. That stability may strengthen their position should formal talks begin.
Mavropanos has grown into his role at the heart of the defence, offering the kind of reliability that’s been lacking since the departure of Craig Dawson. He’s strong in the air, composed on the ball and fearless in duels, exactly what you need in the Premier League.
Roma’s interest makes sense. Italian football loves a no-nonsense defender who can also carry the ball out, and Mavropanos fits that billing. But for West Ham, this summer isn’t about selling core assets. It is about building consistency under Graham Potter, particularly after a turbulent end to last season.

The club holds the cards here. With three years left on his contract, there is no rush to make a decision. Any bid would need to be significant to even warrant consideration. West Ham fans should be encouraged by this attention, it means the recruitment strategy is bearing fruit. But unless a major offer is made, the defender should stay exactly where he is.
