Rodrigo Muniz looks poised to remain at Craven Cottage this summer, but Fulham manager Marco Silva admits the club’s transfer plan has been a failure.

The west London outfit have only brought in one new signing this summer, that being reserve goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte arriving from Montpellier for around £500,000.

Fulham have been linked with a number of players, including Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson, Chelsea outcast Raheem Sterling and Brazilian winger Kevin, but have made little progress in their dealings thus far.

They are the only club in the Premier League yet to sign an outfielder this season, although they did secure new deals for Tom Cairney, Kenny Tete, Josh King and Seth Ridgeon.

Silva‘s frustration at their lack of transfer activity was evident when he spoke to the media ahead of Sunday’s home encounter with Manchester United.

“We had a plan and the plan until now didn’t go through, it’s as simple as that,” he said. “We have to look at ourselves, it’s our fault, it’s not the fault of the market.

“I cannot tell you that someone is going to arrive tomorrow or in two day’s time because I’m not sure and, to be honest, I have big doubts that it’s going to happen.

Silva admitted that Fulham have been too “passive” in the market” and need to go back to the drawing board after missing out on some of their transfer targets.

“That plan failed until now, it is clear,” he said. “We need solutions in the back line, we are short in certain positions there, we need another midfielder to come in as well.

“Some of our targets or the main targets are no more, we have to go in a different direction right now.”

In more positive news for the Cottagers, Silva expects Muniz to stay after the club rejected a £35 million bid from Atalanta. He was also linked with moves to Leeds United and Newcastle.

The Fulham boss hopes the 24-year-old striker, who scored a last-minute equaliser against Brighton on the opening weekend, will sign on new terms.

“We don’t want to lose him, right now he’s completely in contention for the game (on Sunday),” said Silva. “I’m counting on him, let’s see what is going to happen.

“I cannot guarantee 100 per cent but yes, Rodrigo is likely to stay with us and let’s hope we can renew his contract.”
