After months of speculation, it appears Real Madrid may finally be rewarded with a breakthrough in their pursuit of Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The Englishman has been one of Real Madrid’s top defensive targets for quite some time now, with the club eyeing a Bosman move for the player.
Alexander-Arnold, though, had remained coy about his future for the longest despite not renewing his current contract at Liverpool.
Now, it appears Alexander-Arnold is all set to sign a pre-contract agreement with Real Madrid in the January transfer window, reports The Athletic.
At least that is what Real Madrid expect from their top defensive target. In fact, the club are increasingly confident that the Englishman will become a Real Madrid player next season.

The reigning European champions are even willing to offer Alexander-Arnold a long-term deal of at least four years and a hefty signing bonus.
There was a time when Liverpool were pushing to convince the right-back to continue at Anfield. But Real Madrid were encouraged by the lack of advances in the negotiations between the player and Liverpool.
The Whites were eventually convinced to make a move for Alexander-Arnold and this move might soon pay off.
If everything goes correct, Alexander-Arnold will become a Real Madrid player next season and compete with Dani Carvajal for a place in the right-back position.
The veteran defender is currently struggling with a long-term injury and is not expected to come back to action this season, despite the gradual pace of his recovery.
That said, the task is far from over and it is now up to Real Madrid to make sure that the Englishman does sign a pre-contract agreement next month.
