Just hours before Madrid’s clash against Real Oviedo, the Spanish international sparked speculation by liking a post on Instagram that showed him and Manchester United winger Antony in Real Betis shirts.

The photomontage, while clearly fan-made, has quickly spread across social media, and many see it as another public nod towards Ceballos’ desire to go back to the club where it all began.

Ceballos has not hidden the fact that he is unhappy with his situation at the Santiago Bernabeu. Despite his insistence that he wants to play a bigger role, he remains on the fringes of Xabi Alonso’s squad.

Several reports claim that the midfielder has already asked Madrid’s board to consider offers, but so far, no concrete proposal has arrived at Valdebebas.

Betis move complicated

His dream, of course, is to return to Betis, where he rose to prominence before making the switch to Madrid. Yet that path looks far from straightforward.

Betis have been clear in their current transfer strategy, choosing to invest in other profiles as part of their squad rebuild.

While Ceballos’ name always resonates strongly among the fanbase, inside the club, his signing is not currently considered a priority.

The main obstacle is financial. Madrid are understood to be demanding a fee that Betis simply cannot reach without significant sales.

For a club managing its resources carefully, allocating a large chunk of the budget to a returning player with a history of injuries is seen as a gamble.
