According to a report from MARCA, Real Madrid’s long-standing interest in Martin Zubimendi could be fading fast, as it has come to light that the Real Sociedad midfielder has an agreement in place with Premier League side Arsenal.
The 25-year-old, widely admired for his calmness in possession and tactical intelligence, has attracted attention from several top European clubs, with both Madrid and Arsenal keen on securing his services.
For Real Madrid, Zubimendi was seen as a logical successor to Luka Modric, whose future at the club is uncertain beyond this season.
With Modric potentially heading towards the exit door, the club’s sporting directors had earmarked the Real Sociedad anchor as a strategic addition. However, Arsenal appear to have taken the lead.
The Gunners are reportedly much further along in their pursuit of Zubimendi. Mikel Arteta has identified the Spanish international as a long-term replacement for Jorginho, who is likely to leave at the end of the season.

As a result, Arsenal’s recruitment team is already laying the groundwork for a summer move. Talks with Real Sociedad are said to be underway, indicating the Premier League side’s serious intent.
This proactive approach by Arsenal could leave Real Madrid out in the cold. While Zubimendi would undoubtedly be a strong fit at the Bernabeu, Madrid’s efforts appear to have stalled compared to Arsenal’s well-structured strategy.
With Zubimendi potentially Arsenal-bound, Real Madrid are exploring alternative options, and Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister has emerged as a top target.
The Argentine World Cup winner has been in excellent form and is highly rated by Madrid’s scouting department. His technical quality, versatility, and winning mentality make him an attractive prospect for Los Blancos.
However, signing Mac Allister won’t be straightforward. Liverpool see him as a cornerstone of their midfield, and the player himself has shown no desire to leave Anfield.
Any potential deal would likely require a substantial transfer fee and a shift in stance from both the club and the player.
