The future of Alphonso Davies is becoming clearer as the January transfer window approaches, at which point the player can sign a pre-contract agreement with any club over a summer free transfer, as his contract expires at the end of the season.

Real Madrid have been one of the clubs most actively pursuing the Canadian international who is regarded one of the best left-backs in the world.

In fact, for a long while, Davies’ arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer on a free transfer was starting to be taken for granted.

Real Madrid backing out?

However, according to Cadena SER (h/t SPORT), Real Madrid are now starting to pull back from the race to sign Davies in the summer.

The Spanish capital club are frustrated by the lack of response from 24-year-old left-back and are beginning to consider the deal lost.

As per the report, the relationship between Davies and Madrid began to break down over the summer when the Spanish club had virtually secured a deal.

They even spoke with Bayern about paying a transfer fee for the year remaining on Davies’ contract. However, the German club refused in order to buy time.

In recent months, relations have cooled as Davies has not prioritised Real Madrid and has instead expressed interest in speaking to other clubs, including Barcelona.

In light of this situation, Real Madrid have decided not to engage in financial bidding with other clubs. If Davies does not respond positively to their offer in early January, they will turn to the market for an alternative player.

Meanwhile, Bayern Munich are working hard on convincing Davies to renew his contract, with there being optimism within the camp about the negotiations.

Furthermore, Real Madrid’s arch-rivals Barcelona also remain hopeful of signing the Canadian international, believing that the influence of Hansi Flick will help bring the player to Catalonia.
