Real Madrid secured a much needed victory in match day 6 of the Champions League against Atalanta in Bergamo.
Goals from the trio of Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham helped Los Blancos to a win.
Here is how the Real Madrid players fared against Atalanta.
Player ratings:
Thibaut Courtois: 7.5
To be fair, he could not have done much about both goals. The penalty was unstoppable and he was unluckily covering the centre of the goal when Lookman took the shot. Made 7 saves, with 3 being inside the box.
Lucas Vazquez: 6.0
As expected, lost the battle against Ademola Lookman and was beaten badly. Watched the Nigerian score by taking Vazquez on and netting it home. Was helped by Ceballos and Brahim. Received a yellow card hence ruled out for the next Champions League fixture.
Aurelien Tchouaméni: 7.0
Decent outing for him but he would be kicking himself for conceding such a soft penalty. Had good chemistry with Rüdiger. Made crucial interceptions, blocked shots and made 5 clearances.
Antonio Rüdiger: 7.5
Almost ruined a near perfect performance by letting Retegui have a free shot – but thankfully he missed it. Made life miserable for De Ketelaere in particular with the Belgian looking visibly frustrated. Did not overcommit and did his job well.
Fran García: 7.0
This time had more of a defensive role and did not make many overlapping runs. Dealt well with the Atalanta attack and substitutes. Was full of energy until the last minute.
Dani Ceballos: 7.5
A strong, strong performance from the Spaniard. He’s showing that he’s here to stay. Helped Vazquez in defence, which gave Jude Bellingham to have all the freedom in midfield. Had the most recoveries, won 7/11 duels and made 4 clearances too.
Fede Valverde: 7.0
Did not do anything extraordinary whatsoever and neither was it required from him. A disciplined shift at the office for the Real Madrid star.
Brahim Díaz: 7.5
Was at his absolute best specially in the opening half. Recorded an assist for the first goal and ran tirelessly as the night went on. Could have scored a goal too but shot it over the goal.
Jude Bellingham: 9.0
Out of words for his brilliance. Finally has all the freedom he needs to do what he does best. His movement on the field made Atalanta’s life difficult and the Italians were unable to implement their usual tactics. Scored from a left footed shot to cap off an outstanding display.
Vinícius Junior: 8.0
Even after not being fully fit, the Brazilian wreaked havoc across the pitch. He was a bit hesitant to get into duels in the opening half but ultimately grew into the game and gave Real Madrid a much needed lead. The Brazilian now has 40 G/A in his last 40 UCL matches and 22 G/A in 19 matches this season.
Kylian Mbappe: 7.0
Really unfortunate to see him getting subbed off after becoming the 4th fastest player in UCL history to score 50 goals and actually look good even other than just the goal. Did not look like an injury though, more of a discomfort. Remains to be seen if it will keep him out of action and if yes, then how long. The club is expected to find out tomorrow.
Substitutes:
Rodrygo: 6.0
Came on for Mbappe in the 36th minute and had ample time to make an impact but failed to do so. Also did not seem 100% and had just 1 shot at goal.
Luka Modric: N/A
Just 4 touches in 11 minutes which is not enough to warrant a rating.
Raul Asencio: 6.0
Also had 11 minutes on the pitch, but played as a right-back and made a clearance and won a duel also.
