RB Leipzig have officially announced their Šeško replacement: Brazilian striker Rômulo.
The 23-year-old is transferring from Turkish first division club Göztepe to the Red Bulls and has signed a long-term contract until June 2030. He will wear the number 40 jersey in the coming season.
Rômulo was trained at Maringá FC in Brazil, where he attracted attention early on as the top scorer in the U17 league. After playing for Athletico Paranaense, he moved to Turkish side Göztepe in January 2024, where he contributed significantly to the club's promotion to the Süper Lig with five goals and three assists.
Last season however, was his breakout season: 17 goals and 10 assists made him one of the league's MVPs of last seaon!
Sporting director Marcel Schäfer commented on the transfer: “Rômulo brings physical strength, clean technique, and a keen eye for goal. He is versatile in attack, capable of playing both as a classic number nine and in more varied roles.”
“We were particularly impressed by how quickly he adapted to different leagues and playing systems in Brazil and Turkey. We are convinced that he will give our game new impetus and make our offensive profile even more versatile. We are very pleased to welcome him here in Leipzig.”
Rômulo himself is looking forward to playing in the Bundesliga: “The move to RB Leipzig is a big step in my career. The Bundesliga is one of the strongest and most exciting leagues in the world, and I want to prove myself at the highest level here.”
