PSG plot ambitious double swoop in midfield

Fabrizio Romano understands that Paris Saint-Germain are plotting a highly ambitious double swoop in midfield, ahead of the upcoming Ligue 1 season.

PSG have become accustomed to strengthening their midfield, summer after summer. Last season, Manuel Ugarte arrived at the Parc des Princes from Sporting CP for a considerable fee of around €60m. However, despite beginning life well with Les Parisiens, he was used increasingly sparingly as the season progressed. The Uruguay international is now touted to leave, amid significant interest from Manchester United.

Regardless, PSG want to strengthen their midfield and have been strongly linked with Joshua Kimmich (29) of Bayern Munich and João Neves (19) of Benfica. It is thought that the pursuit of Kimmich resulted from the difficulties entailed with bringing Neves to the Ligue 1 champions, however, perhaps not so.

Romano understands that PSG want both Kimmich and Neves. A deal for the latter is, however, difficult as Benfica are demanding a €120m fee. A deal for Kimmich could be more simple, with the German international out-of-contract next summer.
