Leeds United are celebrating their return to the Premier League after two years away.

But, while the forward has been a big part of those celebrations, he’s only been a bit-part player throughout the course of the season, during which he hasn’t made a single start or scored a single goal.

Whites boss Daniel Farke has preferred to use Joel Piroe as a lone striker, and the Dutchman ended the season as their top scorer in the League with 19 goals, with support from Manor Solomon, Willy Gnonto and Brenden Aaronson.

Another player who's tended to come off the bench for them, Mateo Joseph, is also above Bamford in Leeds' current attacking pecking order.

Speaking to CBS Golazo this week, Bamford said that he could be open to a move to Major League Soccer (MLS).

"In terms of playing abroad, America was one of the options. When I was younger, it was something I always wanted to do at some point in my career, to experience a new country, to live the lifestyle there and to try myself in a new league."

He also told them that he had spoken to his family about this potential move, but that he just "doesn't know when" it might happen at the moment.

Bamford has had an extremely disrupted last few seasons at Elland Road

Speculation has been growing concerning Bamford's future at Leeds United for quite a while.

He's now been with the club for seven years, but injuries have long been a disruptive presence in his career, and last season he only made 17 appearances in the Championship, all from the bench, and without scoring a single goal.

This raises the question of whether someone who Daniel Farke has only been using as a squad player in the Championship will have any utility to the club in the Premier League.

Bamford's last two seasons in the second tier have, after all, yielded just eight goals from 50 appearances.

In total, including the last two seasons in the Championship, he's managed just 14 League goals in four seasons for Leeds. Now 31 years of age - and turning 32 within the first few weeks of the start of the 2025/26 season - a change of setting might be exactly what Bamford needs.

With his estimated £40,000-a-week wages being potentially off-putting to the sort of Premier League or EFL clubs who may feel that he could do a job for them, MLS could be a good option for Bamford should an exit from Leeds occur.

MLS has a completely different structure for how players come into the league, so there could also be fewer concerns about his wage requirements.

The World Cup is being held there in 2026, so there is an opportunity for MLS to drastically increase its global profile at the same time. Signing a former England international who's played in the Premier League would certainly be a high-profile move, even if nowhere near the same level as the transfer of Lionel Messi to Inter Miami in 2023.

It would also allow Bamford to fulfil that aspiration of sampling the culture of football in another country before his playing days come to an end. It could be a move that works out well for all concerned, should it come to pass.
