Admittedly Viktor Gyökeres did not get off to the best of starts on his Premier League debut against Manchester United but he is already a proven goalscorer.

Before he joined the Gunners for £63.5 million, he scored 39 goals last season for Sporting Lisbon, helping them to their 21st Portuguese top-flight title.

However, the Swede, who was subbed off in the second half, struggled to make a firm impact at Old Trafford as Arsenal went on to win 1-0 after 90 minutes.

Gyökeres adjusting to Premier League life

Overall, he failed to take a shot all game and only completed four passes with a pass rate of 44.4 percent, which was far from convincing. At the same time, he has only just commenced life in an Arsenal shirt and the Premier League is considered the toughest division in world football. It will take time for him to adjust.

Gyökeres will also need to adapt to Mikel Arteta’s tactics, as well as his teammates adjusting to his style of play. He may be forced to tweak elements of his game, especially with English football being much tighter defensively compared to Portugal.

Signs of promise for the Super Swede

Even though he did not find the net against Manchester United, Gyökeres did score just over a week ago against Spanish side Athletic Club. His close-range header showed the power and presence he can bring to Arsenal’s attack this season.

Not all great goalscorers in Arsenal’s history started quickly. For example, Dennis Bergkamp took six games to score for Arsene Wenger’s side in 1995 before going on to become the club’s tenth all-time top scorer with 120 goals.

If Gyökeres follows a similar path, Arsenal fans will have plenty to look forward to. The Swede may take time to settle, but his track record suggests that once he finds his rhythm, he could become a vital part of Arsenal’s title charge.

A case of keeping the faith Gooners?
