I am one of the many regular visitors to The Mag who had often thought about sending something in, only to ‘never find the time’, that is until now.

If this debut offering gets published on The Mag, then what I would say is that it is due to an excellent article earlier today (Wednesday 11 September 2024) by Michael Jones.

He was writing about the difficulties of getting tickets these days if you are not one of the Newcastle United season ticket holders.

Michael saying he is one of the many Newcastle United members finding it all but impossible to get tickets this season and indeed found this last season.

In his article going on to say that this problem now seemingly getting ever worse, as the club appear to be now taking even more seats away from members, changing them into corporate seating, using restaurants outside St James’ Park in order to sell ever more corporate packages.

I noticed in the comments, some people who are Newcastle United season ticket holders, having less than no sympathy for the author’s predicament, or indeed that of all the other tens of thousands of members. Estimates of between 100,000 and 150,000 Newcastle United members these days.

As was said in the article, it is impossible to know anything, as the club refuse to be transparent in the slightest.

They refuse to say how many memberships have been sold, nor how many (how few!) tickets are available each match for members.

My own current position is that me and a group of mates were Newcastle United season ticket holders once you had to be, Kevin Keegan early 1990s, before then we just all paid in on the day, as did most fans.

Our group of nine then had a split as the Mike Ashley era challenged all of us, eventually, me and four others of the nine, said enough was enough and we couldn’t give a penny more to the FCB and then boycotted, the other four keeping their season tickets.

Which means that as things stand, of that group of nine, four are still inside SJP every match and five of us trying to get tickets as members. Though we are lucky in that if any of the four can’t go, we are on a rota to take the spare ticket(s).

Anyway, what I have always thought is that I have no problem with those who remained Newcastle United season ticket holders even under Ashley. We all understand how difficult it is to stop going.

Whilst with my mates who stayed and indeed pretty much all other Newcastle United season ticket holders I ever talk to, they have every sympathy with us who are locked out now.

I don’t understand these odd trolls on The Mag or indeed any other season ticket holders, who don’t have any sympathy for those of us who can’t get in now. We are all NUFC fans.

What I would say to those Newcastle United season ticket holders who are laughing at those of us who are now relying on memberships, you had better brace yourself for what is coming very soon.

At the minute, many season ticket holders are living the dream, paying the same price as they did 12 or so years ago, when Mike Ashley bought so many people off with the long-term season ticket offer.

My mates and most other season ticket holders are paying cheap as chips prices by modern day PL standards.

In the Leazes and Gallowgate I know many who are paying only around £460, less than £25 a match. The full season ticket price currently for those seats is £727, if not on the Ashley deal.

Up in the Family Area the same story, Ashley sold those on the cheap to fill those then difficult to sell seats. Up there this season it is only £460 adults and £86 for kids! It is £217 for kids in Gallowgate and Leazes.

All of this is set to change though.

The Mike Ashley season ticket deals end in May 2025 and then these current NUFC owners aren’t tied to those deals. I am sure they will get rid of the family area at same time. Why would they do any different?

As a member, if I had got a ticket for Spurs or Man City, it would have been £50 per ticket. This is on top of £37 for a membership.

These prices are coming for everybody!

Just some of them aren’t realising it yet.
