In response to Harry Kane claiming Bayern Munich's squad is the smallest he's played in, Lothar Matthäus has questioned the Englishman's take.

The former German international believes Kane was over exaggerating in his interview, stating the Bavarians do in fact have strong squad depth.

“I didn't quite understand Harry Kane's comments that this year's Bayern squad is one of the smallest he's ever played in.

"Luis Díaz and Jonathan Tah are absolute reinforcements, and they've also added a really good player in central midfield in Tom Bischof.

“Furthermore, Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, and Hiroki Itō will return from their injuries,” Matthäus told Sky Germany.

The 64-year-old pundit also noted how a handful of younger talents are starting to break through from the Bayern academy.

“Lennart Karl, Paul Wanner, Jonah Kusi-Asare, and Wisdom Mike have clearly shown in the friendlies that they can compete at a high level.

"These players should now be given a chance, and I don't think the squad is too small, even without the rumoured Christopher Nkunku,” he added.
