Liverpool have got plans to add Marc Guehi to their squad before the summer transfer window closes on Monday night.

The Crystal Palace captain was the subject of a renewed bid from Anfield last week - with the Premier League champions reported to have made a £35m offer.

That wasn't enough for the FA Cup holders to IMMEDIATELY sell their skipper but there are signs that he may have played his final game for the London club.

Despite the transfer uncertainty surrounding the 25-year-old, he started the league game away at Aston Villa on Sunday night. And what a performance it was - with the central defender scoring a beautiful goal to put the Eagles 2-0 up on the night.

Guehi curled the ball into the top corner at Villa Park from the edge of the box - showcasing an attacker's flair to go alongside his defensive nous.

Guehi pushed into saying goodbye?

If Guehi is leaving he didn't give much away in his goal celebration. He took the adulation of the away fans but there was no real hint as to his intentions.

But events after the game have certaintly piqued interest in the Liverpool universe.

On the Sky Sports broadcast, Dean Henderson - the Palace goalkeeper - is quite clearly seen to be pushing the England defender towards his own fans.

Was he asking his captain to say goodbye before a transfer deadline day transfer to Liverpool?

Even so, Guehi was reluctant to do it - preferring to keep his on-field celebrations giving nothing away.

Will Liverpool strike for Guehi on deadline day?

“I'm a south London boy, grew up in south London and captained the club from a young age. They have been fantastic to me and my family. It’s a pleasure to play for this club," he told Sky afterwards.

So where does that leave us?

We know that Palace would prefer to earn some money for Guehi rather than lose him for free next summer. Like Ibrahima Konate, Guehi is out of contract in 2026 and there is no chance of him signing a new contract.

Having missed out on a £70m plus payday in January when they declined to sell him to Tottenham, Palace have now been backed into a corner.

Liverpool have a pressing needs for a centre-back; they look a man short based solely on numbers right now. And then there's the question marks over the fitness of Konate and the future of Joe Gomez.
