Premier League clubs are once again casting their nets across the continent, and FC Porto’s Spanish striker Samu Aghehowa is fast becoming one of the most talked-about young names in the transfer market. As reported by Caught Offside, “Aston Villa are not alone in their pursuit of the player. Clubs such as West Ham, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal are also closely following the Spanish striker’s situation.”
At just 21, Aghehowa is not only scoring goals, 25 last season alone, but drawing the kind of comparisons that suggest he’s built for English football. His physicality, pace, and intelligent movement have led several scouts to view him as a future star in the making.
Porto are not a selling club in haste. As Caught Offside explained, “The Portuguese team aims to recoup around €70-75 million for the young striker, and they are in no rush to sell him. The player has a €100 million release clause in his contract.” That valuation doesn’t just reflect the current market, it shows how highly Porto regard their rising star.

Clubs seeking value over volume will look closely at Aghehowa’s upside. Strong in the air, mobile on the ground, and confident in his finishing, he offers a modern take on the traditional centre-forward. There’s a sense that with the right mentorship and system, he could explode at the highest level.
Manchester United, Arsenal, and Chelsea are all clubs in flux when it comes to the striker role. Rasmus Højlund is promising but raw; Gabriel Jesus has yet to find his rhythm at Arsenal; Nicolas Jackson has flickered without convincing. As Caught Offside put it, “Players like Rasmus Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee, Gabriel Jesus and Nicolas Jackson have been mediocre.”
Aghehowa, then, becomes more than a transfer target, he’s a solution in waiting. The only question is whether any of these clubs are prepared to pay what could be one of the window’s highest fees for an emerging name still untested outside Portugal.
While the headline names are focused on traditional ‘big six’ clubs, it’s worth noting that Aston Villa’s interest feels authentic and strategically sound. Their project under Unai Emery is progressive, their recruitment smart, and their European ambitions credible. Caught Offside reports: “Aston Villa see Aghehowa as the ideal name to fill the gap in their attacking unit.”

With Champions League football on the horizon, Villa could offer both development and minutes, something harder to guarantee at Old Trafford or Stamford Bridge.
For United fans, Aghehowa’s profile ticks a lot of boxes. He’s physical, composed, and prolific, a player who could ease the burden on Højlund or replace him entirely if the club opts for a fresh attacking blueprint. With the board promising more focused recruitment, this would feel like a move with purpose.
Arsenal supporters, meanwhile, are desperate for cutting edge. Jesus has not lived up to his billing and Kai Havertz, while industrious, isn’t a striker by trade. Aghehowa could bring the clinical instinct that Mikel Arteta’s possession-heavy football has sorely lacked.
For Chelsea, Aghehowa represents yet another chance to get recruitment right in the number nine position. Jackson showed glimpses, but in tight games against top opposition, he struggled. If the club is serious about returning to the top four, they need a reliable finisher, and Aghehowa has all the attributes to be that player.
What’s more, the fee, while high, could make sense in the long term if Aghehowa fulfils his potential. With rivals circling, Chelsea cannot afford another season of hesitation.
