Manchester United were on the brink of an impressive away victory in the Europa League on Thursday night before a second Andre Onana calamity left their quarter-final tie with Lyon in the balance.

After talking the talk in the build-up to the first leg, United's number one failed miserably to walk the walk as Rayan Cherki capitalised on his dangerous parry to cancel out Joshua Zirkzee's late go-ahead goal.

It's Europe or bust for Ruben Amorim down the stretch, but the Portuguese coach won't be rolling out the red carpet for Newcastle United on Sunday. This is Manchester United Football Club we're talking about here. They're going to St. James' Park this weekend in the hope of achieving an unlikely result.

Amorim has to bear next Thursday's second leg in mind, but he hasn't exactly got the tools at his disposal to oversee widespread rotation. Here's how United could line up at Newcastle this weekend.

GK: Andre Onana - Onana was heavily responsible for United's failure to win on Thursday, and it doesn't look like Amorim's project can move forward with him between the posts. However, that drastic change is likely to arrive next season.

CB: Noussair Mazraoui - The typically cool Moroccan was flustered at times in the week, but is likely to keep his place with Matthijs de Ligt's status for Sunday unknown.

CB: Harry Maguire - Amorim has few alternatives in defence, and Maguire is undoubtedly the best option to start in the middle of the manager's back three. Victor Lindelof is in contention.

CB: Leny Yoro - Yoro's impressed in recent weeks and was on the scoresheet for the very first time in United colours on Thursday. He'll continue on the left side of defence and see plenty of the in-form Jacob Murphy.

RWB: Diogo Dalot - Dalot has often been criticised by Man Utd supporters, but he's undeniably been a steady presence on both flanks since Amorim came in.

CM: Bruno Fernandes - United's talisman was excellent again in the week, where he once again proved to be a masterful facilitator from a deeper position after starting in a more advanced role. He can do it all, but his work under pressure may be required against a fierce-pressing Newcastle team.

CM: Kobbie Mainoo - The young midfielder returned from his injury layoff against Lyon, and his bright cameo suggests he may already be able to make his comeback to the manager's starting XI. If he does get the nod, Mainoo will likely only play an hour. Casemiro should be preserved for next week.

LWB: Patrick Dorgu - Dorgu was hindered by a lengthy suspension at the start of his United career, and there's certainly more to come from the young Dane, who's struggled as of late. Still, Luke Shaw isn't yet ready to displace him.

AM: Mason Mount - We know Amorim is a fan of Mount, who's made a couple of appearances off the bench in recent outings. The Englishman may be deemed ready for his first start since mid-December at St. James' Park.

AM: Alejandro Garnacho - Garnacho persistently frustrates, but at least he's an outlet. United have few of them in attack. The Argentine is capable of getting in behind this Newcastle defence, but he must improve in the final-third.

ST: Joshua Zirkzee - Rasmus Hojlund's midweek struggles means we're unlikely to see him in the XI on Sunday. Zirkzee came off the bench to score United's second, which should've been the winner, and he's poised for a recall.
