Manchester United are free to add to their ranks once again from today as the transfer window reopens for the summer break.

Already have the Red Devils welcomed highly-rated attacker Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers after agreeing to activate his £62.5 million release clause. A lump sum has been paid upfront to get the deal over the line, while the remaining fee will be settled in instalments across two years.

Now, it’s Bryan Mbeumo who’s taken the top spot on INEOS’ shortlist following a revelation that the ‘incredible’ 25-year-old had given his priority to a move to Old Trafford, despite garnering interest from Arsenal, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.

United were quick to act on the news by submitting a £55m bid to Brentford almost a fortnight ago, although it was subsequently rebuffed for falling below their valuation.

The Reds then saw their free run at Mbeumo threatened when Thomas Frank was appointed head coach of Tottenham Hotspur. He is said to be keen on reuniting with his former talisman in a new environment, prompting concerns in M16 that their target’s mind could be swayed by the prospect of a reunion.

Spurs have yet to test Brentford’s resolve with a formal offer like United have, and, if today’s reports are anything to go by, they may as well not bother.

Andre Onana working to convince compatriot Mbeumo of Old Trafford move

According to Samuel Luckhurst of Manchester Evening News, Mbeumo ‘still favours’ a move to United even whilst the Europa League winners are ‘aggressively pursuing’ his signature.
