Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez has been linked with a move away from the club in recent months.

The 25-year-old has struggled for regular game time at the Premier League club, and his performances have been underwhelming as well. The player has just 14 goal contributions in all competitions. Liverpool expected a lot more when they paid a substantial amount of money to sign him from Benfica.

Recently, there has been a rumour that Liverpool will have to pay £5 million to the Portuguese club if the striker starts another game for them. However, manager Arne Slot has categorically rubbished those reports claiming that there is no such clause in the striker’s contract.

The Liverpool striker is already struggling to start regularly for the team, and he has now made matters worse for himself with a deleted social media post.

Nunez shared a post on X earlier, claiming: “No wonder, I didn’t play more. The last game I started in the Premier League went well and suddenly…”

The striker is perhaps alluding to the rumoured clause in his contract and suggesting that Liverpool have not handed him a start because they do not want to pay extra money to Benfica. With Slot confirming that the class does not exist, the social media post could make matters worse for the Liverpool player.

It will be interesting to see how the situation develops. It is fair to assume that his future at Liverpool seems bleak right now.
