Darwin Nunez Hits Back at Arne Slot in Deleted Tweet

If Darwin Nunez wasn’t already halfway out of the Liverpool door this summer, then he certainly is now.

Reports from Portuguese outlet A Bola claimed that the Uruguayan was just one Premier League start away from triggering a €5m payment clause to Benfica and that was the reason behind his lack of first-team action.

Arne Slot quickly shut this report down in his pre-match press conference ahead of the title-deciding clash with Tottenham Hotspur, tell reporters that they shouldn’t believe everything they read.

However, Nunez doesn’t seem too convinced by Slot’s remarks as he hit back at the Dutchman in a now deleted tweet.

“No wonder I didn’t play more, because the last game I started in the Premier League went well and suddenly…” – said Nunez on X.

Nunez last started a Premier League game in Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Southampton on March 8th, where he scored a second-half equaliser to send the Reds on their way to three points. He has been reduced to cameos off the bench in Liverpool’s Premier League games against Everton, Fulham but hasn’t featured in the two games since against West Ham United and Leicester City.

In fairness, his stats and performances have been nowhere near good enough all season with just five goals and two assists in the Premier League this season. I wouldn’t be banking on him adding to that tally…

Slot has defended Nunez all season long and even more so towards the end of the season, but the striker doesn’t seem too willing to return any favours to his head coach.

Liverpool face Spurs on Sunday in a clash where just one point would secure the Premier League title, but I think it’s fair to say that Nunez may not be involved in this one…
