Liverpool and Bayer Leverkusen have agreed a deal for Jarell Quansah to move to Germany, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Die Werkself will pay £30 million plus £5 million in bonuses to take Quansah from Anfield.
However, per his report, the Reds will have a £60 million buy-back clause that could even reach £70 million with add-ons. He will undergo his medical on Monday.
Liverpool let the academy graduate, hailed by legendary manager Jurgen Klopp as a ‘real talent’, leave as he bids to earn more game time.
The 22-year-old will likely play more without world-class defenders like Ibrahima Konate and Virgil Van Dijk ahead of him in the pecking order.
The Reds have taken a massive risk to leave themselves short at centre-back, considering Konate’s contract situation.
The Frenchman is entering the final year of his contract with Liverpool, and Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are sniffing around.
Liverpool lost Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid for free this summer, and the Reds will be eager to get Konate to sign on the dotted line.
It remains to be seen if they can get him to budge.
Letting Quansah leave might mean Liverpool are close to signing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.
The England international is a target for the Reds, and they are trying to get him to move to Merseyside.
The Premier League champions will also be preparing for an eventual successor to Virgil Van Dijk, who is entering the twilight of his career.
Even the future of Joe Gomez is uncertain, and he might opt to leave this summer.
Liverpool boss Arne Slot barely gave him a chance in the first team, although injuries played a part in the misfortune.
Gomez might move away, leaving Liverpool further short-manned in defence. The defensive rebuild might not be over.
The Reds remain in the market for a striker and could add a defensive midfielder to the ranks.
They have ignored the glaring need for a natural/specialist to play in that position long enough.
