The future of Moise Kean has been the subject of constant speculation because of his €52M release clause. The deadline to activate was July 15th. While a pair of Saudi teams might have pulled the trigger, he shut the door at that destination. He implied he’s staying as Fiorentina convened to start preparing for next season (via La Nazione).
“I’m driven to forge ahead. This team always helped me out. Now it’s good to return with renewed motivation and to always give my best.”
Al-Qadsiah pursued Kean with the most conviction, but they pivoted and nabbed Mateo Retegui after getting repelled. Al-Hilal inquired as well. They are waiting in the wings to see whether Victor Osimhen will indeed join Galatasaray. Otherwise, they’ll try again, Sky reports.
Manchester United and Napoli lingered in the background for the Viola star but never officially opened talks. The Gigliati will now attempt to renew his contract, Alfredo Pedullà reports. The attacker took a substantial pay cut last summer when he joined after a tough spell at Juventus. He’ll get that back and some if the negotiation is successful. He could double his wages up to €4M per year.
Some interest was inevitable since the fixed sum was about the market value for a top-end striker, but the chatter never seemed overly serious and probably mostly came from other teams and intermediaries rather than from his entourage. Gennaro Gattuso and the Viola can breathe a sigh of relief, but the window is far from over. They’d better get the renewal done in a hurry. Rather than the salary, the potential revised release clause will be the main sticking point.
